Hayhurst defeated Winterhaven, Ainsworth, Abernathy, and Tucker Maxon to win the Chess for Success Region 1 Team Championship on February 17. Aiden Alanis won an individual first place trophy for being the top fifth grader in the Region, powering the team with a perfect score. Pace Lykins’s 4.0 score was good enough to win first place in K-4.

Five members of the team who went to regionals will represent Hayhurst in the Chess for Success State Team Championship on March 9. Pace and Aiden will compete the next day as well, representing Hayhurst at the Chess for Success State Individual Championship on March 10.
